What is Hynotherapy?

What is Hynotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe, evidence-based therapeutic process that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to reach a state of heightened awareness (often called a "trance"). In this state, your mind is more open to positive suggestions, making it easier to change habits, shift perspectives, and release limiting beliefs at a subconscious level.

How does it work?

How does it work?

Our minds have two parts: the conscious (analytical, logical) and the subconscious (habits, emotions, memories). Often, we know what we want to change consciously, but our subconscious programming keeps us stuck. Hypnotherapy "quiets" the analytical mind so we can communicate directly with the subconscious to "rewrite the code" for lasting change.

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

Most people describe it as a state of deep, pleasant relaxation—similar to that "daydreamy" feeling right before you fall asleep or when you’re so absorbed in a book that you lose track of time. You aren't "under a spell"; you are simply very focused and calm and the subconscious mind becomes open to suggestion.

Myths vs. Reality (The "Is and Isn't")

No. This is the biggest misconception from stage hypnosis. In a clinical setting, you are always in control. You cannot be "forced" to do or say anything that goes against your values. If an emergency happened or you didn't like a suggestion, you would simply open your eyes and come out of the state naturally.

Is hypnotherapy the same as sleep?

No. Although you may feel very relaxed, you are actually in a state of hyper-awareness. You will typically hear everything the therapist says and remember the session afterward.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Virtually everyone has the capacity to enter hypnosis because it is a natural brain state we enter daily (like when driving "on autopilot"). You pass through a stage of hypnosis to fall asleep and upon awakening. The only requirement is a willingness to follow instructions and a desire for change.

"Before working with Shauna, I was paralyzed by procrastination and fear of failure. As a writer, I constantly doubted myself and couldn’t finish a single project. After just a few sessions, I was not only writing again—I was excited to share my work. The shift was both subtle and profound. I feel like I’m finally creating from a place of joy instead of fear."
